Although we have found that most of the Catena wines are consumed shortly after release, we are pleased to see that they age beautifully for ten to twenty years. Through decades of study and exploration within Mendoza's high altitude mountain terroirs, the Catena family has identified special locations for its Estate vineyards. From the marriage of these historic vineyards emerges a wine of unique character that has natural balance, concentration and a distinct varietal identity.

987 | Vina Tondonia Rioja Cubillo Crianza Vina Tondonia Rioja Cubillo Crianza  Clear, bright ruby. Nose: Fresh and slight aroma to licorice with consistent texture and persistent aroma. Taste: Smooth, fresh and persistent. Vintage rated as VERY GOOD by the DOC Rioja Board. The 2012 vintage was constrained by the scarce pluviometry, 25% lower than usual in our region. It was an especially dry year until well into the Fall. 35% of the total precipitation was concentrated in the last three months of the year. This low pluviometry and the spring and summer high temperatures, entailed a very important brought forward of the harvest, similar to the previous year. Although the rains that started the 11th of October meant that the harvest continued until the 18th of October, five days later than the 2011 harvest, however this is still an early date for what is usual in Haro. Harvest started on the 4th of October with the white varieties. These same conditions caused a significant reduction in the number and weight of the bunches and therefore, the final production of our cultivation was lower than expected in a normal year. This year quality of wines of our House, both whites and reds, was very good due to a magnificent healthy stage and a good balance between the alcohol content and the polyphenols. The wines continue to develop favourably in terms of freshness and fineness for its good aptitude to ageing in barrel and long age-worthy. | R. 1877 | Grande Reserve Naousa Grande Reserve Naousa  A rich wine with a deep ruby colour and terracotta tints. The sweet aromas of dried fruit, dominated by tomato and fig, blend with the aromas of ageing, like cinnamon, vanilla, wood and spices. A potent wine, with a body characterized by an abundance of mature tannins, a result of the long ageing process. Lasting aftertaste.
Grande Reserve Naoussa is a trademark of Boutari Wineries, since it is one of its first and best-known wines. A genuine example of a red aged wine that first introduced to the market the concept of a limited, controlled production made from grapes from selected vineyards.

1975 | Chianti Classico Chianti Classico  Tasting notes: the colour of this Chanti Classico is that ruby red of the Sangioveto grapes. The nose is fragrant, fresh with pleasant hints of red fruit, licorice, black currant and a hint of vanilla. Dominated by the typical notes of Sangiovese chiantigiano. Expresses a pleasant sweetness on the palate, it is round, soft and fruity. Acidity and persistence characterise a very elegant aftertaste. Pairing: a versatile wine, it matches well with structured and important dishes, and also with moist dishes and medium-aged cheeses. Only native vines, without Cabernet or Merlot, to maintain the most typical formula of the most famous Italian wine, without following the trend that see the use of wines from the South to modify the beautiful ruby red typical of the Sangioveto with red-black hues.
